Michael Jackson

I wasn't really a fan, and hadn't realised how much his music played in the background of my life until, this morning, I heard the many tracks he'd written.

I fell in love while 'Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough' was played in a Helsinki bar. In one of the happiest times of my life I remember dancing to 'Girlfriend' in a Portsmouth Navy base. 'Earth Song' made me finally break down and cry when I heard it on the radio in December 1996. We were driving up from Devon where I'd said goodbye to a very dear, and very brave, friend suffering from cancer. She was gone three days later and this song always triggers memories of that terrible time.

A sad day.

What a touching piece. Just sums up the day perfectly. I'm sure there are a lot of people who weren't necessarily fans but have realised today that his songs have played in the background of their lives. Yet another great blog!
